2014 - 2015The Project articulated a speculative futures design for Raviwarpeth, a 250 year-old central business district in Belagavi, India with rich economic and architectural heritage.
The site study identified various stakeholders and social hierarchies within the economic ecosystem to create an urban design strategy that leverages these complex networks to organize and grow its urban pockets in a sustainable manner. Design strategies were developed on the basis of data collection, mapping and interviews conducted within the community to map user journeys, pain-points and residual spaces of the neighborhood as points of intervention. The project also questioned the traditional roles of “the architect” or “the planner” in an ecosystem of dynamic interdependencies.
The proposed design aimed to create a safe, conducive urban environment for people to go out and collaborate with their neighbors, fostering civic economy to build a higher degree of social trust.
